Brown Rice Family is today's freshest world roots band jamming towards global solidarity and organic happiness. Guided by a strong belief in the natural flow of things, BRF provides the masses with a distinctively organic World Roots Music, which encompasses jazz stylings, afrobeat, reggae, rock, Latin rhythms, hip-hop, and funk.
The band was formed while its members were attending the City College of New York. Initially, BRF started off with two members, Yuichi and former member Joe Jang, who both met while taking the same music class. Both shared many things in common, among them were music and healthy eating and living. Both shared the belief that one should live in a healthy environment and eat naturally grown food. While flirting with their organic approach to living and music, they came across brown rice---one of the healthiest foods for human consumption. This led them to envision molding a band deeply rooted in a strong foundation, a band that not only creates great music but also creates music that makes its listeners feel alive. To make this connection between healthy living and music, they decided to name the band Brown Rice Family.
The band began to grow and is presently comprised of eight members hailing from all over the world---Japan, Jamaica, Haiti, Nigeria, South Africa and USA. The members' diverse national backgrounds set the stage for their unique coexistence, their musical creativity and dance. The BRF sound is in the truest sense of the words, World Roots Music. The Brown Rice Family vibe is similar to Fela Kuti’s, but if Bob Marley and Antonio Carlos wanted to get on board for a gig, they would. BRF's colorful sound waves will carry rhythm surfers on a musical journey that straddles ancient and contemporary global sounds. BRF takes a workshop approach when crafting their music. Each member’s input is examined with an open mind by all members before it's placed in a musical frame for display.
BRF firmly believes in self-improvement and environmental improvement, and so the collective is perpetually seeking out healthier ways of living, grooving, and eating. And this belief is not only in their music, it stretches out into the crafting of the band-made “Brown Rice Family soap”. This soap is made of the most natural ingredients available from organic farmers and suppliers.
This "family" creates world rhythm driven music and dance that is nutritious for every age, gender, ethnicity, nationality, group, and occasion.

The Zing Experience

The band Zing Experience fuzes Haitian Roots, Reggae and Rock to create a soulful sound, with influences from artists as diverse as Boukman Eksperyans, Jimi Hendrix, and Bob Marley.
Zing Experience made its New York City debut on September 30, 2006 at Sugar Bar, the legendary music venue of '70s icons Ashford and Simpson. The band packed the house and created an instant following of loyal supp...orters. That momentous night opened the door for Zing Experience to deliver its positive message to embrace one's roots and "live a better day," as reflected in one of the band's most popular songs, "Take Me Away".
Since their debut, Zing Experience has gained international and commercial appeal and has performed in Europe, the Caribbean, South America, and the U.S, making them one of the few bands out of Haiti that has been able to garner worldwide success. In March 2009, they headlined the annual "No Siesta, Fiesta" Festival in Norway, where they received rave reviews from the Norwegian press and where they also recorded their first full length album in 2010. Their music has been used in two internationally distributed films, "The Road to Fondwa" and "Une Memoire Vodou".
In February 2011, they received the prestigious Unesco-Ashburg Artist in Residency Scholarship in Montreal, Canada.
They have an exciting and captivating live performance that causes you to dance, laugh, cry, and learn.
Paul Beaubrun, the group's co-founder, lead singer/songwriter and guitarist, is said to embody the "Zing" spirit -- a captivating energy and ability to uplift people, to embrace one's past while looking forward to the future with hope and determination. Paul is the youngest son of Grammy nominated Lolo and Manze Beaubrun, lead singers and founders of Boukman Eksperyans, Haiti's most influential, popular and revolutionary band. Paul's musical vision was shaped by his parents, as he performed alongside them all over the world -- from the Caribbean, the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Paul's musical upbringing and passion for his roots fuels the core of the powerful and unique sound of Zing Experience.
Cynthia Casasola, co-founder, singer and dancer for Zing Experience, contributes her sweet, angelic voice, echoing and reinforcing the band's message of love, positivity and hope for the future. She offers the perfect complement to Paul's sound, creating unforgettable harmonies both vocally, and in their collaborative writing efforts.
"Zing" is defined as a spirit from the sea with African and native Indian roots. The feeling that Zing Experience generates has been described as one that inspires and transcends this world. Zing Experience leaves you with a desire for more -- not only for more music, but also for a better understanding of this world -- and the realization that the possibilities
